It\u2019s not a look they would prefer to sport.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s itchy. Their significant others hate it. They get sidelong glances and double takes from passersby.<\/p>\n

But this month, thick, dark moustaches are the norm for 11 Physical Education and Kinesiology (PEKN) professors.<\/p>\n

The men are among an estimated 170,000 worldwide growing moustaches for Movember, a campaign to raise money for prostate cancer research. Movember\u2019s Canadian fundraising site, ca.movember.com, lists two Brock Movember teams of men who started the month clean shaven and are now growing the best moustaches possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people will give you a double take,\u201d said Philip Sullivan, associate professor and mo\u2019 grower. \u201cMy daughter doesn\u2019t like to kiss me. But if you have one or two or 12 people who never have moustaches but suddenly do, it makes you aware. It\u2019s a great campaign in that it raises its own awareness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sullivan started the PEKN effort. The group formed with 12 members, but one shaved for a formal event. The PEKN group hopes to raise $2,000. So far, they\u2019ve raised about $500.<\/p>\n

The professors are unlikely to keep their moustaches after November. They have some complaints about the look.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really itchy,\u201d said David Gabriel.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy students can\u2019t take me seriously when I lecture,\u201d added Stephen Cheung.<\/p>\n

Shaving, said David Ditor, takes longer now, because \u201cI have to work around it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Founded in 2003, Movember has raised about $30 million for cancer research, including $2.4 million in Canada last year.<\/p>\n
