{"id":1723,"date":"2010-03-05T09:52:53","date_gmt":"2010-03-05T14:52:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brocknews\/?p=1723"},"modified":"2010-03-22T08:47:53","modified_gmt":"2010-03-22T13:47:53","slug":"ontario-wine-industry-toasts-its-top-promoters-at-ccovi-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2010\/03\/ontario-wine-industry-toasts-its-top-promoters-at-ccovi-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Ontario wine industry toasts its top promoters at CCOVI event"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1724\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1724\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1724 \" title=\"ccovipresentation\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/ccovipresentation.jpg\" alt=\"ccovipresentation\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1724\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael Pinkus, left, is presented with the media award by Charles Baker from Stratus Vineyards.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A wine writer, an educator and one of Canada\u2019s leading wine enthusiasts are on the podium as the Ontario wine industry recently honoured its leading advocates with its 2010 Promote the Promoters Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The awards acknowledge those individuals that celebrate the Ontario VQA wine industry with unselfish enthusiasm, constructive input, and unsolicited promotion.<\/p>\n<p>They are announced during the Experts\u2019 Tasting at the industry\u2019s Cuv\u00e9e weekend, which was hosted recently by Brock University\u2019s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI).<\/p>\n<p>Toronto-based wine writer Michael Pinkus \u2014 the Grape Guy \u2014 won in the media category for his dedication to keeping the wine industry well informed through OntarioWineReview.com<\/p>\n<p>Niagara\u2019s own Jennifer Wilhelm from Niagara College was recognized in the Education category. And the promoter-at-large award, a new category, was given to Ken Burford, president of the Ontario Wine Society, who has been instrumental in promoting VQA wines through educational events.<\/p>\n<p>The Experts\u2019 Tasting is an annual invitation-only event designed and targeted to the wine trade \u2014 primarily media, product consultants, sommeliers and wine educators who promote VQA wines through education and\/or promotion.<\/p>\n<p>The Experts\u2019 Tasting has become a key educational feature of the Cuv\u00e9e weekend. The best Ontario VQA wines are pre-judged and chosen for their tasting suitability to demonstrate a theme. The theme for this year\u2019s Experts\u2019 Tasting was \u201cDoes place matter?
