Grape-growing and winemaking graduates of Brock\u2019s Oenology and Viticulture (OEVI) program<\/a> were recognized for excellence in winemaking at the 24th annual Cuv\u00e9e Gala on March 2 at the Niagara Fallsview Casino.<\/p>\n

Richie Roberts, Rob Power, Mary McDermott, Gord Robert and Eric Pearson collectively won nine Cuv\u00e9e gold awards at this year\u2019s gala celebration.<\/p>\n

Roberts, of Fielding Estate Winery in Beamsville, was the big winner, taking home gold in three categories, more than any other winner at Cuv\u00e9e 2012.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an honour to win at Cuv\u00e9e,\u201d he said afterward, \u201cespecially because the competition is judged by other winemakers. To be celebrated by peers is a great feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuv\u00e9e<\/a>, commonly referred to in the industry as the \u201cwine Oscars\u201d, is a competition whereby Ontario winemakers submit their finest wines to be judged by a panel of their peers. This year\u2019s gala showcased a record participation of 64 wineries.<\/p>\n
