The Faculty of Graduate Studies will resume its series of professional development workshops<\/a> for graduate students on Wednesday, Jan. 11 with a session focused on leadership.<\/p>\n

The workshop, titled Effective Team Leadership: From Chaos to Creating the Conditions for Success, will be from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m. in TH 244. Refreshments will be available. Graduate students are invited to register by emailing smcintosh@brocku.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is the third in a series of six workshops that were initiated last fall. The series provides students with the opportunity to acquire professional skills that complement their academic expertise as they prepare for careers in academia and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled with the response that we\u2019ve had from students since launching the series in November,\u201d said Mike Plyley, Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies<\/a>. \u201cWe had very strong participation numbers for our first two sessions. I expect the interest will continue given the number of registrations we have received to date for the upcoming sessions this term. We\u2019ll keep registration open for each workshop as it comes up so that more students can plan to participate as the series continues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marilyn Rose, professor of English Language and Literature and the former Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, is leading the workshops.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe designed the workshops to be informal and interactive and this has made for very lively discussions around the room during the first two sessions,\u201d Rose said. \u201cThis level of enthusiasm suggests that our graduate students see these workshops as a good starting point for developing professional skills. They recognize that organizations want to hire well-rounded individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n
