{"id":13529,"date":"2011-11-15T15:10:06","date_gmt":"2011-11-15T20:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=13529"},"modified":"2011-11-15T15:13:43","modified_gmt":"2011-11-15T20:13:43","slug":"talk-will-tackle-prostate-cancer-treatment-options","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2011\/11\/talk-will-tackle-prostate-cancer-treatment-options\/","title":{"rendered":"Talk will tackle prostate cancer treatment options"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In tune with the tenor of this <a href=\"http:\/\/ca.movember.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Movember<\/a>, the Department of <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/applied-health-sciences\/academic-departments\/comm-health-sciences\" target=\"_blank\">Community Health Sciences<\/a> will host a public talk this Thursday by a leading oncologist on prostate cancer research.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13530\" style=\"width: 163px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13530\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13530\" title=\"Theos Tsakiridis\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/tsakiridis.jpg\" alt=\"Theos Tsakiridis\" width=\"153\" height=\"221\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13530\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Theos Tsakiridis<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As part of the department\u2019s ongoing Health Science Seminar series, <a href=\"http:\/\/fhs.mcmaster.ca\/oncology\/faculty\/theostsakiridis.html\" target=\"_blank\">Theos Tsakiridis<\/a>, professor in the Department of Oncology at McMaster University and adjunct professor of Community Health Sciences at Brock, will speak about new radiotherapy techniques for prostate cancer.<\/p>\n<p>His talk, \u201cRadiosurgery and Stereotactic Radiotherapy \u2013 new treatment options for the management of prostate cancer,\u201d takes place Thursday, Nov. 17, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in Thistle 325.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be discussing techniques that involve new advanced technology that recently became available at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, such as the new Cyberknife unit,\u201d Tsakiridis said. \u201cThese technologies are helping to establish new treatment paradigms, of greater efficiency and convenience for the patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This event is free and open to everyone.
