Young men are earning fewer degrees, gaining fewer employable skills and lagging behind girls in test scores, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Storm will be the main speaker at an upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/community-learning\" target=\"_blank\">Community Learning<\/a> session on Oct. 17 entitled \u201cThe education of boys: our goals and fears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope by the end of the evening that we have a few people who can spark the same conversation with other groups of people,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is an important issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The session is just one of 14 Conversation Caf\u00e9s planned for the Community Learning fall season. \u201cThe education of boys: our goals and fears\u201d will be moderated by Kim Yielding, manager of communications and public relations with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dsbn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">District School Board of Niagara<\/a>. Storm will speak for about 15 minutes, followed by about an hour of group discussion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know a couple of things,\u201d said Storm, who hosts a weekly current affairs show, <em>Taking Niagara by Storm<\/em>, on TV Cogeco. \u201cWe know that boys are failing academically like never before. We know that their communication skills are lagging.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12628\" style=\"width: 197px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12628\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12628 \" title=\"Kate Cassidy\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/katecassidy2.jpg\" alt=\"Kate Cassidy\" width=\"187\" height=\"230\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-12628\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kate Cassidy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In a transitioning area like Niagara where unemployment is high, it\u2019s important that our young men are flourishing, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy hope is that if we get 15 or 20 people in a room, we can get things done, even if it\u2019s to get more people talking about this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Getting people talking is the purpose of Community Learning, now in its second year. Other topics this season include \u201cCan human differences peacefully co-exist?\u201d on Nov. 6 and \u201cWhy do we hide hurt, illness, and injury?\u201d on Nov. 14.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/webfm_send\/18700\">\u2022 Download the Community Learning brochure with a full list of sessions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Community Learning tackles topics that are current and appeal to a broad range of people, said director Kate Cassidy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try to bring different people together from across Niagara who wouldn\u2019t typically have the opportunity to interact with each other to discuss questions with no easy answers and hear other\u2019s unique perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conversation Cafes are free and held in meeting rooms and coffee shops across Niagara, Cassidy said. Some people come with statistics. Some people come with opinions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever people want to bring to it, we want them there,\u201d she said. \u201cIf they want to come listen, that\u2019s important. If they want to come talk, that\u2019s important too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Community Learning also hosts Community Discovery events such as the Willowbank School of Restoration Arts on Oct. 15, and \u201cFamily Learning Adventures\u201d such as the Robo Tech: Vehicle Challenge on Oct. 15 in Fort Erie and Mega Mystery Niagara at Brock on Oct. 22.<\/p>\n<p>Storm will also participate in the session \u201cWhy get involved in the community?
