International Teaching Assistants currently under contract at Brock are invited to attend the October and November sessions of the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Workshop Series.<\/p>\n
The remaining sessions for the fall lineup of workshops include:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Language(s) of Teaching: Whose Language is it Anyway?\u201d<\/strong> \u201cReflections on Teaching in the Canadian Classroom\u201d<\/strong> The series is a new initiative presented by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Educational Technologies<\/a> (CTLET) in consultation with ESL Services<\/a>, International Services and Programs Abroad<\/a>, the Graduate Students\u2019 Association<\/a> and the Faculty of Graduate Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Over the past couple of years, we have observed a significant increase in the number of international TAs taking part in our Saturday morning teaching workshops,\u201d said Jill Grose, CTLET associate director. \u201cGiven that they are new to teaching in the Canadian context, we wanted to develop additional programming specifically tailored to their needs. The workshop series is in a pilot stage and we’d welcome input or involvement from any interested members of the Brock community.”<\/p>\n The series also included a welcome reception for international TAs as part of the annual TA Day and Orientation on Sept. 10, and two September workshops titled \u201cTeaching in the Canadian Classroom\u201d and \u201cDifferent Cultures and their Relationship in the Classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n For more information contact Jill Grose (jgrose@brocku.ca<\/a>) or Lianne Fisher, instructional development assistant (lf02wz@brocku.ca<\/a>). \nLanguage can help us or hinder us when teaching , particularly when we need to provide feedback to students. Effective teaching draws upon multiple languages to get the point across. This session will highlight strategies for developing the many different language(s) of teaching.<\/p>\n

\nWhat have you learned about teaching in the Canadian classroom? What keeps you awake at night? This session provides an opportunity to share stories and strategies about surviving and thriving as an international TA.<\/p>\n
