But new graduate students\u2019 study space in the James A. Gibson Library has helped make their lives a little easier.<\/p>\n<p>The newly renovated area on the west side of the <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/library\" target=\"_blank\">Library<\/a>\u2019s sixth floor offers a meeting room and quiet work areas for graduate students. At the recent grand opening to celebrate the new space, PhD candidate Chrissy Lackner said it is welcome and has long been in demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGraduate students need an area that\u2019s primarily quiet and conducive to working for long periods of time,\u201d said Lackner, senate representative for the <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/gsa\" target=\"_blank\">Graduate Students Association<\/a> (GSA). \u201cThey need an environment that\u2019s appealing because they\u2019re going to spend a lot of time there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So far, that\u2019s been the case with the new space, which was created in consultation with graduate students. In the short time it\u2019s been open, students have flocked there and worked long into the night, said GSA president Daniel Antwi-Amoabeng.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been here a few times, and every time I\u2019ve been here, it\u2019s always been full,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The new space features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>22 large study carrels<\/li>\n<li> two computer workstations<\/li>\n<li> 38 bookable lockers nearby for storage<\/li>\n<li> two lounge chairs<\/li>\n<li> bookable meeting\/presentation\/group space for up to 10 students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;With the growth in graduate programs at Brock University, the Library has been examining the needs of graduate students for some time,\u201d said University librarian Margaret Grove. \u201cWe are thrilled to open these new spaces, which are designed to foster both individual study and collaboration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related story:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=8994\">Renovations underway on Library\u2019s graduate study space<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grad students have a lot of work to do and not enough quiet space in which to do it.
