{"id":12270,"date":"2011-09-28T09:23:21","date_gmt":"2011-09-28T14:23:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=12270"},"modified":"2011-09-28T09:23:21","modified_gmt":"2011-09-28T14:23:21","slug":"national-app-contest-coming-to-brock-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2011\/09\/national-app-contest-coming-to-brock-this-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"National app contest coming to Brock this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Great Canadian Appathon (GCA) is coming to Brock this weekend and students from the University are gearing up for the challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Brock will be a competition hub for the second installment of this nation-wide programming contest, which challenges students to create the best mobile game app for any platform in 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The winning game will be published in an app store and the team will win $25,000.<\/p>\n<p>The event \u2014 which is also billed as a \u201chackathon\u201d \u2014 kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 and runs until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2. The theme for the games to be created will be revealed on the day of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing a part of this event really shines a light on computer science at Brock,\u201d said Kelly Moylan, president of Brock\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/brockcsc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Computer Science Club<\/a>, who is recruiting competitors for this weekend\u2019s contest.<\/p>\n<p>A seminar room in Mackenzie Chown J will be transformed into home base for the event.
