{"id":111934,"date":"2026-09-30T12:12:50","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T16:12:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=111934"},"modified":"2026-09-30T17:16:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T21:16:12","slug":"uncorking-expertise-at-niagara-grape-and-wine-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2026\/09\/uncorking-expertise-at-niagara-grape-and-wine-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Uncorking expertise at Niagara Grape and Wine Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/ccovi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute<\/a> (CCOVI) made a splash at the 74th annual Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, hosting two sold-out educational sessions during the iconic annual event.<\/p>\n<p>More than 60 community members attended the Wine Chat sessions on Sept. 27.<\/p>\n<p>The first session \u2014 facilitated by Brock graduates Sara Murdoch (MA \u201925), 180 Estates Winery Retail Manager, and Jennifer Kelly (PhD \u201919), CCOVI Senior Oenology Scientist \u2014 showcased a flight of wines made by 180 Estates winemaker Ramsey Khairallah (BSc \u201910), a graduate of Brock\u2019s Applied Grape and Wine Science program.<\/p>\n<p>During second session, facilitated by Kelly and CCOVI Operations Coordinator Taylor MaGee (BA &#8217;13), attendees explored four VQA wines available at the festival. Two of the featured wines were crafted by Brock graduates: Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate Winery\u2019s Reserve Chardonnay made by winemaker Chris Holman (BSc \u201915) and Creekside Estate Winery\u2019s 2025 Breakaway Riesling made by winemaker Rob Power (BSc \u201900).
