{"id":111294,"date":"2026-08-31T10:46:06","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T14:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=111294"},"modified":"2026-08-31T10:46:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T14:46:06","slug":"welcome-weekend-residence-move-in-to-usher-in-new-chapter-for-thousands-of-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2026\/08\/welcome-weekend-residence-move-in-to-usher-in-new-chapter-for-thousands-of-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome Weekend, residence move-in to usher in new chapter for thousands of students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New and returning Badgers will soon arrive on campus for Brock University\u2019s inaugural Welcome Weekend \u2014 two days of activities aimed at building connections before the start of the new academic year.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6, <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/329579\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"72c0b669-a8bb-4a01-932c-65406280369a\">Welcome Weekend<\/a>\u00a0expands on the University\u2019s annual residence move-in and serves as the precursor to <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/organization\/welcome-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"6b968773-1576-4756-81d2-d5425e3cf3ee\">Welcome Week<\/a>\u00a0filled with orientation and social activities, varsity sports events, live music and more.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the weekend, more than 2,700 students will move into the University\u2019s residences, joining many off-campus and commuting students as they begin and continue their Brock experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMove-in day can feel overwhelming for both students and their families,\u201d said Cindy Chernish, Director, Housing Services. \u201cOur goal is to help take some of that stress away with our simple and quick carousel approach to unloading that has friendly and helpful volunteers guiding them throughout.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students moving into the University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/housing\/apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"95f0b47f-7073-437b-af21-5bc71b091c66\">residence buildings<\/a>\u00a0or the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-suites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"6f3ce459-44cc-43b4-853b-9dee3edb15f0\">Brock Suites<\/a>\u00a0are assigned a specific day and one-hour move-in timeslot \u2014 with help at the ready upon their arrival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVolunteers will greet students and their families, providing assistance in getting everything to the students\u2019 room so they can unpack and settle in,\u201d said\u00a0Chernish. \u201cOur hope is that families can spend that first day soaking in the excitement of a new chapter, not worrying about\u00a0all the\u00a0logistics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>All Brock students are invited to come together throughout Welcome Weekend to celebrate with their families, connect with their peers and learn about campus resources that can support a successful start to the academic year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWelcome Weekend is about helping students feel at home from the moment they arrive,\u201d said Brad Clarke, Associate Vice-President, Students. \u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity to connect with new people, discover the resources that will support their success, experience the energy of the Brock community and celebrate the start of a new adventure. Whether they\u2019re coming here for the first time or returning to campus, we want students to have fun, feel excited for what lies ahead and know they belong at Brock and in Niagara.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Featured events include Welcome Weekend Live! with food trucks, live music and lawn games in Jubilee Court; Settling-in Social in Rankin Family Pavilion, where key campus resources will be highlighted; and the Brock University Students\u2019 Union Open House in Union Station, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brockbusu.ca\/oweek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"36dbbea1-910e-4df6-8f42-851211b55fb8\">BadgerFest<\/a>\u00a0programming. Alumni Field will host the Brock Badgers\u2019 home openers for women\u2019s rugby and soccer as well as men\u2019s soccer.<\/p>\n<p>The weekend will serve as a kickoff to <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/organization\/welcome-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"daf12090-b728-4c69-b244-787f2fdc08dc\">Welcome Week,<\/a>\u00a0running through early September with a wide array of events, including <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/329170\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"bfeb252c-3c47-4949-b27b-8fea16da7baf\">Brock Cares Day of Service<\/a>, which will see students volunteer with community organizations across Niagara.
