Looking around a room full of\u00a0her\u00a0future\u00a0Brock University\u00a0peers,\u00a0Emma Keltos-Scordino\u00a0felt an immense sense of pride.<\/p>\n
The Saint\u00a0Paul Catholic High School\u00a0student\u00a0is\u00a0looking forward to taking\u00a0the next step in\u00a0her\u00a0educational journey,\u00a0enrolling in the Concurrent Teacher Education\u00a0(Intermediate\/Senior) program while\u00a0supported by an entrance scholarship from Brock.<\/p>\n
Keltos-Scordino\u00a0was\u00a0among\u00a058 graduating high school students honoured with\u00a0the University\u2019s Niagara Principal\u2019s Scholarships during a\u00a0ceremony\u00a0Thursday, May 14\u00a0that welcomed the recipients and their families to campus.<\/p>\n
The $2,500 entrance\u00a0scholarship\u00a0recognizes a combination of academic achievements, school and community involvement and financial need, with two graduating students selected from\u00a0nearly every\u00a0public, Catholic and private secondary school in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m\u00a0very grateful\u00a0to receive this scholarship.\u00a0I give back to my school and community because I care, not because I expect anything in return, but it means a lot to make a difference in people\u2019s lives,\u201d\u00a0says\u00a0Keltos-Scordino. \u201cThis award makes me even more excited to come to Brock and, as I begin Concurrent Education, it will help me focus on my studies and work toward making a positive impact as a teacher.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now in its 11th year, the Niagara Principal\u2019s Scholarship program has awarded more than $1.6 million to local teens since its\u00a0inception\u00a0in 2015.<\/p>\n
The evening celebration brought together more than 200 students, family members, school\u00a0administrators\u00a0and educators to\u00a0celebrate the recipients\u2019 accomplishments and help prepare them for their next steps as Badgers.<\/p>\n
\u201cCommunity is a big part of who we are here at Brock.\u00a0We take pride each year in\u00a0building connections with\u00a0and celebrating\u00a0exceptional\u00a0students from across\u00a0the\u00a0region who\u00a0are\u00a0having an impact\u00a0in and out of the classroom,\u201d says\u00a0Geraldine\u00a0Jones, University\u00a0Registrar\u00a0and\u00a0Associate Vice-President, Enrolment.\u00a0\u201cThis\u00a0scholarship\u00a0is one of the many ways\u00a0we\u00a0show our students we\u2019re here to support them each step of the way on their\u00a0path to\u00a0launching\u00a0the career of their dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thursday\u2019s ceremony saw the scholarship recipients honoured with an award certificate and a box filled with Brock gear and resources\u00a0meant to\u00a0give\u00a0them\u00a0a\u00a0strong\u00a0start to\u00a0post-secondary.<\/p>\n
Also supporting their transition to university life was a presentation\u00a0held earlier in the evening\u00a0that outlined key details on\u00a0course registration, summer orientation programs,\u00a0student\u00a0awards\u00a0and financial support, and what to expect in September.<\/p>\n
A panel of 2025 Niagara Principal\u2019s\u00a0Scholarship recipients also returned to the event to share insight into their first-year experiences with the incoming class.<\/p>\n
