Classrooms were bustling.\u00a0Boomer was roaming. And\u00a0visitors\u00a0were learning\u00a0about the benefits of having Brock University in\u00a0their community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The University\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>new Burlington Campus<\/span><\/a>\u00a0welcomed hundreds of people to tour the space\u00a0on Saturday, May 2, as part of the City of Burlington\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Robert Bateman Community Centre Phase 1 opening celebration<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event, hosted by the\u00a0City\u00a0to highlight\u00a0the new centre\u2019s offerings,\u00a0gave\u00a0Brock\u00a0employees and students\u00a0a\u00a0chance\u00a0to connect with residents,\u00a0showcase\u00a0the campus within the community centre and highlight\u00a0programs and other resources\u00a0available to the public.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The day kicked off with formal remarks by\u00a0local elected officials\u00a0followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony\u00a0that\u00a0also included\u00a0Brock senior leaders\u00a0and\u00a0representatives from the community centre\u2019s other on-site partners: Burlington Public Library, TechPlace and Halton District School Board.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brock University\u2019s new Burlington Campus welcomed hundreds of visitors on Saturday, May 2, as part of the City of Burlington\u2019s Robert Bateman Community Centre Phase 1 opening celebration.<\/p><\/div>\n

Throughout the afternoon, community members engaged in family-friendly interactive activities held in all areas of the community centre.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis vibrant space is a\u00a0true reflection of what is possible when community comes together,\u201d says Lesley Rigg, Brock\u2019s President and Vice-Chancellor.\u00a0\u201cBrock is proud to be a part of the Robert Bateman Community Centre, working alongside the City and its dedicated partners\u00a0to\u00a0strengthen ties between community and education.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Visitors to Brock\u2019s\u00a0Burlington Campus\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a hub for the University\u2019s\u00a0Teacher Education and Applied Disability Studies programs \u2014\u00a0explored stations in\u00a0labs and classrooms\u00a0focused\u00a0on\u00a0fun, hands-on learning in science, mathematics, language, mentorship, music,\u00a0drama\u00a0and dance\u00a0as well as\u00a03D printing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Members of the\u00a0<\/span>Hadiya\u2019dag\u00e9nhahs First Nations, M\u00e9tis and Inuit Student Centre<\/span><\/a> were on hand to share beading kits and land acknowledgement resources, while <\/span>Brock Library<\/span><\/a>, in its dedicated space\u00a0next to the\u00a0community centre\u2019s\u00a0Burlington Public Library\u00a0New Appleby\u00a0branch,\u00a0welcomed\u00a0young visitors for story time\u00a0sessions\u00a0with\u00a0Department of Educational Studies\u00a0Professor and author Kari-Lynn Winters.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Community also had the opportunity to connect with members of Brock\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Alumni Relations<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Professional and Continuing Studies<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Student\u00a0Recruitment<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Student Life and Success<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Brock LINC<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Co-op, Career and Experiential Education<\/span><\/a>\u00a0teams, learning about different opportunities available through the University.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t
