{"id":109237,"date":"2026-04-22T13:11:22","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T17:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=109237"},"modified":"2026-04-24T09:50:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T13:50:37","slug":"grad-builds-bridges-from-classroom-to-career-for-accounting-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2026\/04\/grad-builds-bridges-from-classroom-to-career-for-accounting-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Grad builds bridges from classroom to career for Accounting students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For more than 25 years, Brock graduate Angie Greenwood (BAcc \u201900) has made a lasting impact on students as a mentor, community leader and unwavering champion of experiential learning.<\/p>\n<p>Greenwood recently received the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2026\/04\/community-partners-celebrated-for-commitment-to-co-op-student-success\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2025 Brock Alumni Co-op Employer Award<\/a> for her extraordinary contributions to the University\u2019s co-op programs.<\/p>\n<p>A partner at Wormald Masse Keen Lopinski LLP (WMKL), she has played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of Brock Accounting co-op students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExperiential education was foundational to my own career, and it continues to be foundational for the firm,\u201d Greenwood says. \u201cHaving real-world experience alongside academic studies is invaluable. It prepares students for life after graduation and helps shape strong, capable professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As well as providing accounting and assurance services to local businesses, Greenwood is actively involved in WMKL\u2019s Human Resources and Auditing and Assurance departments. Her dual role has positioned her as a key contributor to WMKL\u2019s long-standing partnership with Brock\u2019s co-op programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving worked with Angie as an employer partner over many years, I greatly value the guidance, insight and thoughtful feedback she has consistently offered to help strengthen the Bachelor of Accounting program and enhance our students\u2019 learning experiences,\u201d says Alesia Dane, Associate Director of Co\u2011op Education and Workplace Partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>WMKL has hosted more than 130 Brock co-op students and is committed to retaining students for the duration of all their co-op work terms, an approach Greenwood says benefits both students and the organization by fostering continuity, growth and strong mentorship.<\/p>\n<p>Greenwood\u2019s commitment to Brock is deeply personal. Having built both her career and her life in Niagara, she credits her Brock experience with opening doors and shaping her professional path.<\/p>\n<p>She believes it is important for students to understand the wide range of career opportunities an accounting degree can provide and is passionate about mentoring students as they explore their professional identities.<\/p>\n<p>Greenwood also values sharing her own journey, acknowledging the demands of public accounting while emphasizing the importance of supportive workplace cultures and strong role models, particularly for young women.<\/p>\n<p>WMKL and Greenwood regularly support Brock\u2019s Accounting programs by participating in CPA Days, networking events for undergraduate and graduate students, and focus groups for co-op employers.<\/p>\n<p>The firm&#8217;s relationship with Brock spans decades.\u00a0Larry Wormald (BAdmin \u201984), one of the firm\u2019s managing partners, was a member of Brock\u2019s first co-op Accounting graduating class and helped establish the foundation Greenwood continues to build upon. Today, a significant number of WMKL\u2019s accounting staff are Brock graduates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAngie exemplifies what it means to be both a dedicated Brock alumna and an outstanding employer partner,\u201d Dane says. \u201cHer professionalism, intelligence and positive outlook continually elevate those around her.
