{"id":109164,"date":"2026-04-20T12:59:01","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T16:59:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=109164"},"modified":"2026-04-20T17:24:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T21:24:39","slug":"nominations-open-for-board-of-trustees-staff-member-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2026\/04\/nominations-open-for-board-of-trustees-staff-member-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominations open for Board of Trustees staff member election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brock University Board of Trustees is seeking one new ongoing staff representative to serve a three-year term.<\/p>\n<p>As one of <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/university-secretariat\/governance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brock\u2019s two governing bodies<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/university-secretariat\/board-of-trustees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Board of Trustees<\/a> is responsible for the government, conduct, management and control of the University and of its property, revenues, expenditures, business and affairs.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of the Board, the staff representative will actively engage and participate in discussions and decision-making that affect the University. In addition, each staff member is appointed to a Board committee. Time and commitment are required in preparing for and actively attending the Board and committee meetings, normally held five times per year from September to June.<\/p>\n<p>The General Bylaws of the Board of Trustees specify that the Board must include two ongoing staff members who are elected by ongoing staff at Brock to serve staggered three-year terms. As of Wednesday, July 1, there will be one ongoing staff vacancy on the Board.<\/p>\n<p>The University Secretariat will hold elections in May to select one representative from the ongoing staff for a three-year term commencing July 1.<\/p>\n<p>All ongoing staff of the University are eligible to serve, except those who report directly to the President or to a Vice-President.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals may nominate themselves or another individual providing the candidate has clearly agreed to accept the nomination. Nomination forms are available on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/university-secretariat\/board-of-trustees\/election-of-staff-member-to-the-board-of-trustees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University Secretariat election website<\/a> and must signed by three members of the ongoing staff in addition to the nominee. In lieu of signatures on the form, the nominee and three nominators may send individual emails to <a href=\"mailto:universitysecretary@brocku.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">universitysecretary@brocku.ca<\/a> indicating they support the nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Nominees may also submit a statement of no more than 200 words in length with no links. These statements will be posted as received on the University Secretariat election website.<\/p>\n<p>All nominations, endorsements and candidate statements must be submitted by email to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:universitysecretary@brocku.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">universitysecretary@brocku.ca<\/a>\u00a0no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4.<\/p>\n<p>The election will be conducted using electronic voting, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13 and close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22.<\/p>\n<p>All eligible voters will receive an email to their Brock email account with a link to a secure electronic ballot. Each voter may vote for one candidate as there is only one vacancy.
