By shining a global spotlight on the impact of biodiversity loss and the climate crisis, it aims to inspire people worldwide to consider how small changes can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Brock will implement the following energy conservation measures on March 28:

Turning off the lights illuminating the main entrance sign, the bronze statue of Major-General Sir Isaac Brock in front of the Rankin Family Pavilion, the Library floors and Schmon Tower ribbon lighting.

Turning off, where it is safe to do so, non-emergency lighting in the Roy and Lois Cairns Health and Bioscience Research Complex, the Cairns greenhouse and the pendant lighting at the building’s east end. Lighting will be manually turned off in all labs that are able to participate.

Reducing lighting in the Central Utilities Building to a minimum.

Turning off all non-emergency lighting in offices, classrooms and lobbies at the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts where it is safe to do so.

Dimming lights in the Rankin Family Pavilion Atrium.

Turning off fans in unused areas across campus to further conserve energy.

Students, staff, faculty and local community members are also encouraged to participate by turning off their lights and reducing energy use through actions like switching off televisions and radios.

For more information, email Facilities Management Customer Service at sustainability@brocku.ca

Brock University will join the global Earth Hour initiative by switching off its lights this weekend to conserve energy and raise awareness about climate change.

[54
3498,901,53
