{"id":10844,"date":"2011-06-28T10:17:06","date_gmt":"2011-06-28T15:17:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=10844"},"modified":"2011-06-28T10:18:53","modified_gmt":"2011-06-28T15:18:53","slug":"triggs-lecture-series-spreads-out-to-bc-vineyards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2011\/06\/triggs-lecture-series-spreads-out-to-bc-vineyards\/","title":{"rendered":"Triggs Lecture Series spreads out to B.C. vineyards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/ccovi\/outreach-services\/triggs-premium-vinifera-series\" target=\"_blank\">Triggs International Premium Vinifera Lecture Series<\/a> returns this August, it will for the first time be held in the grape and wine regions of both Ontario and British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>Since its launch in 2004, the series has brought international viticultural experts to Ontario\u2019s Niagara region to share their knowledge through vineyard visits and a public lecture relating to premium vinifera wine grape production.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10845\" title=\"CCOVI - photo of grapes\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/ccovigrapes-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"CCOVI - photo of grapes\" width=\"240\" height=\"134\" \/>This year\u2019s speaker, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lincoln.ac.nz\/staff-profile?staffId=Glen.Creasy\" target=\"_blank\">Glen Creasy<\/a>, a lecturer at Lincoln University in New Zealand, has done extensive viticultural research and will discuss Vine balance: ways to accelerate fruit maturity.<\/p>\n<p>Created by Brock\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/ccovi\" target=\"_blank\">Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute<\/a> (CCOVI), the Triggs Lectures are made possible through an endowment by industry leaders Donald and Elaine Triggs.<\/p>\n<p>Donald Triggs praised the decision to expand the series to B.C.\u2019s wine region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElaine and I are delighted that Dr. Creasy will be sharing his knowledge on vine balance and earlier ripening with growers, students and researchers in the Okanagan as well as Ontario this year,\u201d he said. \u201cAchieving physiological maturity is always a big challenge in our relatively short growing season in the Okanagan and Ontario.
