{"id":107969,"date":"2026-02-26T12:55:42","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T17:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=107969"},"modified":"2026-03-05T16:20:04","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T21:20:04","slug":"summer-camp-registration-opens-march-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2026\/02\/summer-camp-registration-opens-march-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer camp registration opens March 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From scaling a <a href=\"https:\/\/anc.ca.apm.activecommunities.com\/brocku\/activity\/search?onlineSiteId=0&amp;activity_select_param=2&amp;activity_keyword=climbing&amp;viewMode=list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">30-foot rope challenge course at Climbing Camp<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/anc.ca.apm.activecommunities.com\/brocku\/activity\/search?onlineSiteId=0&amp;activity_select_param=2&amp;activity_keyword=leaders&amp;viewMode=list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">developing personal leadership skills in the Leaders in Training program<\/a>, Brock Recreation\u2019s popular camps will provide enriching opportunities for children and youth to stay active, encounter new experiences and have fun this summer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/anc.ca.apm.activecommunities.com\/brocku\/home?onlineSiteId=0&amp;from_original_cui=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Summer camp registration<\/a> opens on Wednesday, March 4 at noon.<\/p>\n<p>Developed by professional educators, <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/youth-university\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/SummerCamps-guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brock University Summer Camps<\/a> are designed for youth finishing senior kindergarten to Grade 12 and offer diverse programming in science, arts, sports, adventure, technology, robotics and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor more than 20 years, Youth University has delivered dynamic summer day camps that give children the unique opportunity to experience the Brock campus long before they reach university age,\u201d said Hannah Dabrowski, Manager of Youth Programs. \u201cThrough engaging programs and hands-on activities, campers build meaningful friendships, develop valuable life skills and gain the confidence to step beyond their comfort zones.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Camp options include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Youth University: A creative environment for exploring innovation and outdoor education across various disciplines.<\/li>\n<li>Sports School, Fitness and Aquatic Camps: Campers stay active through gym, field and aquatics centre activities.<\/li>\n<li>Badgers Sport Camps: Focused on specific sports and skill development, this camp provides training from Brock\u2019s varsity student-athletes and coaches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fitness camps will be returning this year, and the Leaders in Training camp will be extended to three weeks in length.<\/p>\n<p>Also new this year is <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/chyds\/competitive-edge-sport-camp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Competitive Edge<\/a>, run by the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/chyds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre for Healthy Youth Development through Sport (CHYDS)<\/a> in collaboration with Brock Sports and Recreation.<\/p>\n<p>Geared toward youth ages 11 to 14 who play sports, the camp is focused on strengthening performance through fun, engaging activities rooted in sports psychology.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor of Recreation and Leisure Studies and CHYDS Director Corliss Bean said the camp aims to teach youth how mindset and emotions shape their game, equipping the next generation of athletes with tools they can carry beyond the playing field.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Competitive Edge is designed to give young athletes something they rarely receive but deeply need: mental skills that support confidence, resilience, and joy in sport,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen kids learn how to manage pressure, set meaningful goals and build a healthy mindset, they don\u2019t just perform better \u2014 they thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Running Monday through Friday from Monday, June 29 to Thursday, Sept. 3, all Brock&#8217;s camps provide full-day programming from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Complimentary drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m. and pick-up ends at 4:30 p.m., with extended care options available from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Adjusted schedules apply during the holiday weeks, with the first session running Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (with no camp on Canada Day) and another shortened week from Tuesday to Friday following the Civic Holiday on Monday, Aug. 3.
