Brock will host a roster of events next month that foster acceptance and solidarity while celebrating the University\u2019s vibrant and diverse communities.<\/p>\n

The Pride Planning Committee has increased its annual March celebration to include an entire month of programming in support of Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and\/or questioning, intersex and asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) communities and their allies. The University also provides additional opportunities to build community and connection during the globally recognized Pride Month in June.<\/p>\n

Brock\u2019s new 2SLGBTQIA+ Program Coordinator Helen Martin (she\/they) (MA \u201925) will answer questions from the campus community about the University\u2019s range of queer and trans supports during a webinar on Thursday, March 5.<\/p><\/div>\n

Brock\u2019s new 2SLGBTQIA+ Program Coordinator Helen Martin (she\/they) has been encouraged by the groundswell of support from organizers across campus in developing a robust lineup of affirming social and educational activities this term.<\/p>\n

\u201cExpanding the programming provides more spaces and opportunities to gather, be visible and celebrate the existence of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities on campus,\u201d Martin (MA \u201925) said. \u201cThe more we can do as an institution to highlight that these lives are valued and provide support, the better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pride Month begins with an opening reception<\/a> on Monday, March 2 from 10 to 11:15 a.m. in Rankin Family Pavilion room 214\/215. Attendees will get a preview of the month\u2019s events, be invited to participate in an optional affirmation-writing activity and hear from senior administration, faculty, staff and students.<\/p>\n

Harrison Browne, the first publicly trans professional hockey player in history, will join a panel discussion exploring the intersection of queerness and physical activity on Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. in STH 216. Also known for his role on Heated Rivalry<\/em>, Browne will speak about his experience as a trans athlete in sport and media during the free community event. The panel has been organized by the Office of Human Rights and Equity, the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, Brock Recreation, and several President\u2019s Advisory Committee for Human Rights, Equity and Decolonization working groups.<\/a><\/p>\n

All faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend a Queer at Brock webinar<\/a> on Thursday, March 5 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. to learn about the University\u2019s range of queer and trans supports available, including gender-affirming care, funding support for transitioning, getting involved on campus, the name change process and other key 2SLGBTQIA+ resources. The 2SLGBTQIA+ Program Coordinator will also be available to take questions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want students to think of Brock as a safe space and hope when current students think of Brock, or future students are thinking about what school they want to go to, they see it as having the resources and supports they need and a community that accepts and supports them,\u201d Martin said.<\/p>\n

The popular Pride Prom, hosted by the Brock Pride club, will return on Saturday, March 28 and a variety of workshops, drop-in support services, learning opportunities and social events will round out the rest of the month\u2019s programming.<\/p>\n
