Brock University\u2019s\u00a0journey\u00a0to sustainable enrolment has a new\u00a0comprehensive\u00a0roadmap to lead the way.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The University has launched its inaugural\u00a0<\/span>Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) Strategy<\/span><\/a>, a living framework for 2025-2030 that translates Brock\u2019s strategic aspirations into operational reality.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The document, which maintains Brock\u2019s student-centred approach, connects the goals of the\u00a0<\/span>Institutional Strategic Plan<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>University Action Plan<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>Academic Plan<\/span><\/a>\u00a0with day-to-day decisions that shape the University\u2019s academic offerings, student experience and future sustainability.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis\u00a0five-year\u00a0strategy\u00a0is about reimagining Brock for tomorrow\u00a0while\u00a0meeting the needs and expectations\u00a0of our students\u00a0and restoring our competitive edge\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0highly competitive\u00a0sector,\u201d says Arja Vainio-Mattila, Provost and Vice-President, Academic.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a call to action\u00a0that,\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0support\u00a0of\u00a0faculty and staff across the institution, will lead to\u00a0increased\u00a0enrolment,\u00a0improved\u00a0retention and\u00a0enhanced\u00a0supports for students that carry through\u00a0from recruitment\u00a0to graduation\u00a0and beyond.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Informed by best practices across the post-secondary sector,\u00a0the SEM\u00a0Strategy\u00a0will guide the revitalization of Brock\u2019s academic portfolio\u00a0to\u00a0reflect\u00a0student interests,\u00a0respond to labour market trends\u00a0and establish the University\u2019s\u00a0distinctive place in higher education.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe will lead the way with bold, impactful programming\u00a0that equips our graduates with the tools necessary to\u00a0excel in their careers and\u00a0reshape the world\u00a0in\u00a0both\u00a0big and small ways,\u201d\u00a0says Vainio-Mattila.\u00a0\u201cThis work is already underway at the University. However, with these new\u00a0strategies\u00a0in place, we will be better positioned to showcase Brock\u2019s academic strengths and the impact they have in the world.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0SEM Strategy will build on recent momentum Brock has seen in application growth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The University\u2019s overall applications from Ontario secondary school students are up by 4.1 per cent for 2026-27 over the previous year, with 7.3 per cent more applicants identifying Brock as their top choice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite this\u00a0positive shift,\u00a0the University remains in a period of significant enrolment pressure, which the SEM Strategy will help Brock to address through institution-wide action.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to\u00a0advancing the important work of\u00a0revitalizing\u00a0Brock\u2019s academic programming to align with market and student expectations, the document aims to expand access to higher education through defined, flexible pathways that help students enter and navigate the University successfully throughout their academic career.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe SEM Strategy gives us a clearer roadmap for strengthening how students enter and move through Brock. By enhancing pathways and supporting the University\u2019s\u00a0collaborative\u00a0efforts\u00a0to align and renew its academic offerings, we\u2019re helping students access programs that reflect their aspirations and the evolving needs of the world around them,\u201d says Geraldine Jones, Registrar and Associate Vice-President, Enrolment. \u201cThese improvements open the door to a wider range of learners and contribute to a more seamless, supported experience from first contact through to graduation.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Other focuses of the document include\u00a0co-ordinated approaches to\u00a0broadening\u00a0domestic and international recruitment and strengthening Brock\u2019s marketing and reputational brand,\u00a0ensuring the University is positioned competitively\u00a0in an\u00a0evolving\u00a0post-secondary landscape.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the SEM Strategy provides a roadmap for the future, it was also designed to evolve and will be updated to reflect new insights, policy shifts and institutional learnings as it is implemented.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
