{"id":106030,"date":"2025-11-14T13:44:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T18:44:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=106030"},"modified":"2025-11-14T15:30:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T20:30:21","slug":"womens-mentorship-program-seeks-participants-for-2026-cohort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/11\/womens-mentorship-program-seeks-participants-for-2026-cohort\/","title":{"rendered":"Women\u2019s mentorship program seeks participants for 2026 cohort"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For Caroline Hummell, the relationships that grow out of the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/social-sciences\/women-in-leadership-mentorship-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deborah Rosati Women in Leadership Mentorship program<\/a> are what matter most.<\/p>\n<p>The program is designed for women with a connection to Brock, the Niagara region or both. <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/social-sciences\/women-in-leadership-mentorship-program\/#1676576323238-cfcb679e-a41f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Applications for the 2026 cohort<\/a>, which runs January to May next year, will be accepted until Monday, Dec. 15.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis program is focused on leadership development and the building of networks, but it can also lead to friendship,\u201d says Hummell, who has served as Program Co-ordinator for the past three years.<\/p>\n<p>Carling Wright, a Niagara community member who works in the hospitality field, was a member of the 2025 cohort. She says she applied to be a mentee before Hummell encouraged her volunteer as a mentor instead, and she is glad she \u201ctook the leap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI initially felt a lot of pressure to do a good job as a mentor, but I quickly realized that this program exists to learn from each other,\u201d says Wright. \u201cMy mentee and I have supported each other through professional challenges, mental health concerns, grief and more. We continue to meet beyond the program and look forward to celebrating each others\u2019 successes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright is one of more than 100 women who have been matched in mentoring partnerships since the program\u2019s launch in 2023, following a <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/07\/brock-alumna-advancing-mentorship-opportunities-for-future-women-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">generous gift from Deborah L. Rosati (BAdmin \u201984)<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program is not just named after Deborah \u2014 she has always been an active presence, delivering words of inspiration and wisdom to the group and networking with participants,\u201d says Hummell. \u201cShe\u2019s incredibly supportive of women\u2019s leadership development through mentorship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A vibrant community has grown around the program, with several past participants eager to take part again for another session of activities, speakers and partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Rosati, who will speak at the kickoff meeting in January, additional guest speakers for this year\u2019s cohort include accomplished Brock alumni:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/10\/changemaker-honoured-for-commitment-to-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rachel Crane (BBA \u201911)<\/a>, Executive Director of Literacy Link in Niagara<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/06\/launching-leaders-women-breaking-barriers-to-a-better-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Honourable Jenna Suds, PC (BA \u201901)<\/a>, Member of Parliament for Kanata<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/10\/local-leader-champions-inclusive-support-for-survivors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jennifer Gauthier (BA \u201909)<\/a>, Executive Director of Birchway Niagara<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year\u2019s cohort will also be the subject of new research around the optimal development of women\u2019s leadership, skills and capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe see this programme as a great model, being based within a university setting but also community engaged,\u201d says Hummell, who is also a PhD candidate in Brock\u2019s Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. \u201cWe\u2019re going to be evaluating it through more of a research lens this year with the support of a research assistant from a graduate program at Brock, whom we hope to hire in the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dean of Social Sciences Ingrid Makus says the upcoming cohort offers wonderful opportunities for those looking to participate in a meaningful experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach year, I\u2019m thrilled to see how the Women in Leadership initiative expands, and the mentorship program is such an important part of how we aim to support and nurture leaders and future leaders across the region,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Rosati says she is also heartened by seeing how the program has grown over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal for the Deborah Rosati Women in Leadership Mentorship program is to inspire, elevate, support, encourage and motivate women in leadership,\u201d says Rosati. \u201cI am delighted to see that the past three cohorts have fostered connections, community and collaboration.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For Caroline Hummell, the relationships that grow out of the Deborah Rosati Women in Leadership Mentorship program are what matter most.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":27,"featured_media":106036,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[9794,7484,1,38],"tags":[3333,3574,14953,13687,1642,1209,240,522,4630,2092,10495,7591],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/106030"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/27"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=106030"}],"version-history":[{"count":7,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/106030\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":106048,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/106030\/revisions\/106048"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/106036"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=106030"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=106030"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=106030"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
