{"id":105639,"date":"2025-10-30T14:46:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T18:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=105639"},"modified":"2025-10-30T17:16:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T21:16:26","slug":"goodman-symposium-to-spark-national-dialogue-on-canadas-trade-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/10\/goodman-symposium-to-spark-national-dialogue-on-canadas-trade-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodman symposium to spark national dialogue on Canada\u2019s trade future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Canada faces a shifting global trade landscape, Brock University\u2019s Goodman School of Business will host key voices from government, academia and industry next week to map out a co-ordinated strategy for resilience and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Goodman\u2019s 2025 CPA Ontario Centre for Public Policy and Innovation in Accounting symposium, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman\/cpa-centre\/symposiums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global trade in transition: Meeting the moment<\/a>,\u201d will take place on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Brock\u2019s Goodman Atrium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanada stands at a critical juncture in global trade, and it\u2019s more important than ever that we convene leaders from across sectors to address the challenges and opportunities ahead,\u201d said Goodman Accounting Professor Kareen Brown. \u201cHosting this dialogue ensures diverse Canadian perspectives are not only heard but also lead the way as we determine what\u2019s next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flavio Volpe, President of the Automative Parts Manufacturers\u2019 Association, will give the keynote address about the future of the Canadian automotive sector. Other topics covered throughout the day will include government policy response, lessons from negotiating with the U.S. in the age of President Donald Trump, unlocking Canada\u2019s potential and advancing free trade, legal strategies to manage tariff uncertainty and trade barriers, and the impact of trade turbulence on business success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe symposium is more than a gathering, it\u2019s a catalyst for meaningful dialogue among experts, policymakers and our future leaders,\u201d said Goodman Dean Barry Wright. \u201cI\u2019m incredibly proud that Goodman is at the forefront of this initiative, providing a space where Canadian voices can shape the future of international business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The full-day event features speakers from academia, government and the business community, with panel moderation provided by Goodman faculty members.<\/p>\n<p>Among the day\u2019s speakers are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brian Clow, Former Deputy Chief of Staff and Lead Canada-U.S. Relations for former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau\u2019s Office<\/li>\n<li>Greg Kanargelidis, Senior Global Trade and Customs Lawyer<\/li>\n<li>Warrington Ellacott, Chair, Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters (IE Canada)<\/li>\n<li>Daniel Tisch Echevarria, President and CEO, Ontario Chamber of Commerce<\/li>\n<li>Brian Kingston, President and CEO, Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers\u2019 Association<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CPA Ontario members can receive six continuing professional development hours for attending the event.
