{"id":105612,"date":"2025-10-29T13:52:49","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T17:52:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=105612"},"modified":"2025-10-30T09:25:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T13:25:46","slug":"soup-er-lunch-launches-milestone-year-for-united-way-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/10\/soup-er-lunch-launches-milestone-year-for-united-way-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Soup-er lunch launches milestone year for United Way campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock\u2019s seven Faculties served up friendly competition \u2014 and hot soup \u2014 during the University\u2019s annual lunchtime fundraiser for United Way Niagara.<\/p>\n<p>Held Wednesday, Oct. 29, the Souper Star event officially kicked off Brock\u2019s 2025 United Way Niagara <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/sites\/United-Way\/SitePages\/Campaign.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">employee fundraising campaign<\/a>. With more than $2.9 million raised since 2003, this year\u2019s campaign aims to break through the $3 million total fundraising milestone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United Way campaign is just one of the many ways Brock has given back to Niagara over the years,\u201d said Brock United Way Campaign Committee Co-Chair Koreen McCullough, Academic Administrator in the Department of Communications, Popular Culture and Film. \u201cEvery dollar we\u2019ve raised has helped to transform the lives of people right here in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With support from campaigns like Brock\u2019s, United Way Niagara funds life-changing programs and initiatives addressing poverty, food insecurity, homelessness, mental illness, addiction and gender-based violence across the region.<\/p>\n<p>Every donation makes a difference:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Giving $5 per paycheque (or $130 per year) can provide mental health and community supports for a vulnerable adult.<\/li>\n<li>Giving $10 per paycheque (or $260 per year) can provide 10 hours of counselling for survivors of domestic abuse and violence.<\/li>\n<li>Giving $20 per paycheque (or $520 per year) can provide 180 people in need with a nutritious meal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The official campaign will run until the end of December. Employees can set up a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/sites\/United-Way\/SitePages\/Donate-to-United-Way.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">payroll contribution through Workday<\/a> or make a one-time donation through the <a href=\"https:\/\/give.unitedway.ca\/donate\/WSTCAT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Way Niagara website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to in-kind sponsorship from Brock\u2019s Dining Services partner Aramark Canada, proceeds from Souper Star will be added to Brock\u2019s 2025 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The fundraiser welcomed about 120 employees to sample nine soups prepared by Brock Dining Services chefs and vote on their favourite option.
