{"id":104129,"date":"2025-09-02T12:46:02","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T16:46:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=104129"},"modified":"2025-09-02T16:48:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T20:48:08","slug":"international-student-ambassadors-aim-to-foster-sense-of-belonging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/09\/international-student-ambassadors-aim-to-foster-sense-of-belonging\/","title":{"rendered":"International student ambassadors aim to foster &#8216;sense of belonging&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For new international students at Brock, finding a sense of belonging can start with something as simple as a friendly face at an event or help finding resources on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Brock International student ambassadors will support these opportunities through peer mentorship, campus events and cultural programming.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025-26 team brings together four standout returning ambassadors and five new members eager to build connections within the Brock community.<\/p>\n<p>For fourth-year Biomedical Sciences student Irene Charley, returning to the ambassador role was an easy decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing an ambassador has been one of the most meaningful parts of my time at Brock,\u201d she said. \u201cI had such a great time being part of the Lunar New Year celebration, where so many students came together to share culture, food and traditions. That sense of belonging is what I want to continue creating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in United Arab Emirates, Charley\u2019s advice to international students is to stay curious and take advantage of opportunities on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk questions, join clubs, attend events, make friends and enjoy your time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Charley is one of four returning ambassadors who made a strong impact during the past year. The returning team also includes fourth-year Medical Sciences students Ray Lin and Daniel Oguejiofor and second-year Data Science and Financial Analytics student Andri Hudlin.<\/p>\n<p>For Hudlin, who is returning for a second year, the program represents both leadership and belonging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour time at Brock is what you make it, so why not make it the best experience you can?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Among the new team members bringing fresh energy and perspectives to the group is Malik Abdullah, a third-year Accounting co-op student who is excited to begin his journey as an ambassador.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to be an ambassador because I want every international student to know they belong here,\u201d Abdullah said. \u201cMy advice is simple. Make connections and get involved.
