{"id":104075,"date":"2025-08-28T11:05:39","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T15:05:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=104075"},"modified":"2025-08-28T16:23:40","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T20:23:40","slug":"nominations-sought-for-honorary-degree-recipients-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/08\/nominations-sought-for-honorary-degree-recipients-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominations sought for honorary degree recipients\u202f"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University is inviting nominations for outstanding individuals deserving of an honorary degree.<\/p>\n<p>Any member of the Brock community or general public can nominate someone they feel has made a meaningful local or global impact, excelled in their field or created remarkable change.<\/p>\n<p>While nominations can be submitted to the Governance Committee of Senate throughout the year, they must be received by Monday, Oct. 27 to be considered for Spring Convocation in June.<\/p>\n<p>Honorary degrees are awarded based on merit in either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>significant high quality scholarly and\/or creative work; or<\/li>\n<li>excellence in achievements deserving recognition, including meritorious public or humanitarian contributions to the University, the region, Ontario, Canada or internationally, and outstanding achievement and\/or service in any area of interest to the University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Active Canadian politicians will not be considered for honorary degrees nor will current employees or members of the Brock Board of Trustees. Past employees and members of the Board may be considered if it has been at least three years since they vacated their position.<\/p>\n<p>Nomination forms and guidelines are available on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/university-secretariat\/honorary-degrees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University Secretariat website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate Governance Committee reviews, in confidence, all nominations received and will forward its recommendations to Senate for consideration. To protect confidentiality, Senate does not report on its deliberations, but those approved at Senate are added to the University\u2019s list of proposed honorary degree recipients for all Convocations at which an honorary degree is to be awarded.
