{"id":1032,"date":"2010-01-21T16:55:26","date_gmt":"2010-01-21T21:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brocknews\/?p=1032"},"modified":"2010-01-22T10:54:25","modified_gmt":"2010-01-22T15:54:25","slug":"students-promote-right-to-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2010\/01\/students-promote-right-to-play\/","title":{"rendered":"Students promote Right to Play"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1033\" style=\"width: 498px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1033\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1033\" title=\"righttoplay\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/righttoplay.jpg\" alt=\"righttoplay\" width=\"488\" height=\"288\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1033\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abbi Hill, left, and Kyler Nurmsoo promote Right to Play Brock University in the Walker Complex this week.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A campus group is raising money and awareness this week for an organization that uses sport and play as a tool for development in impoverished countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Brock chapter of Right to Play has displays in Walker Complex and MacKenzie Chown A block, where members are selling T-shirts, collecting change and distributing information about the humanitarian cause.<\/p>\n<p>The effort commemorates Right to Play Week, which spreads the word about the movement and the 30-member group at Brock, said Kyler Nurmsoo, president and third-year Sport Management student.<\/p>\n<p>Each week, more than 688,000 children take part in regular sport and play activities organized by Right to Play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a way to let them be kids for a day,\u201d said Nurmsoo, whose own involvement was inspired by Professor Laura Cousens\u2019 Sport for Development course.<\/p>\n<p>Right to Play has been present on campus for a while, he said.
