{"id":100522,"date":"2025-04-07T13:00:35","date_gmt":"2025-04-07T17:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=100522"},"modified":"2025-04-07T17:05:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T21:05:21","slug":"brock-united-way-campaign-raises-152k-for-local-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/04\/brock-united-way-campaign-raises-152k-for-local-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock United Way campaign raises $152K for local community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University\u2019s 2024 United Way Campaign has raised more than $152,000 to help build a better future for everyone in Niagara.<\/p>\n<p>The funds raised from this year\u2019s campaign will support more than 92 local programs and initiatives funded by United Way Niagara that address issues such as poverty, food insecurity, homelessness, mental health and well-being, gender-based violence and addiction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 100,000 people in our region used a program funded by United Way Niagara in 2024. Every dollar given by Brock employees makes a difference for people who could be our friends, neighbours, loved ones or colleagues,\u201d said Koreen McCullough, Communications, Popular Culture and Film Academic Administrator and Brock\u2019s United Way Campaign Staff Co-Chair.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2003, the Brock community has raised more than $2.9 million for United Way Niagara, which relies on employee payroll contribution campaigns for about half of the funds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our vision is a strong Niagara where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,\u201d said United Way Niagara CEO Frances Hallworth. \u201cLocal partners like Brock University make it possible for us to make that vision a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the 2024 employee fundraising campaign is wrapping up, Brock\u2019s committee is already looking ahead to next year\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a bittersweet moment for outgoing Faculty Co-Chair Colleen Whyte (BRLS \u201997), Associate Professor with the Recreation and Leisure Department, who has served in the role since 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing a part of Brock\u2019s United Way Campaign Committee has been incredibly fulfilling,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a small team, but we\u2019re all dedicated to making a big impact in the Niagara community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone interested in joining the Brock United Way campaign committee as a volunteer can contact McCullough at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:kmccullough@brocku.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kmccullough@brocku.ca<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To learn more about the campaign, visit the\u00a0Brock\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/sites\/United-Way\/SitePages\/Campaign.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Way campaign SharePoint site<\/a>.
