The Brock community recently gathered to celebrate student research at the Child and Youth Studies Fourth-Year Honours Undergraduate Colloquium, a two-part event held Tuesday, March 18 in Pond Inlet and Tuesday, March 25 in Sankey Chamber.<\/p>\n
Students who completed a research project or honours thesis in their fourth year had the opportunity to present their findings as part of The Craft of Research course, taught by Child and Youth Studies Postdoctoral Fellow Natalie Spadafora (BA\/BEd \u201913, MA \u201915, PhD \u201921) for the first time this year.<\/p>\n
The 36 participants covered research topics ranging from perfectionism in schools to addressing employment challenges for Canadian youth and the impact of influencer culture.<\/p>\n
As well as showcasing the breadth of research happening in the Department of Child and Youth Studies, Spadafora says the event highlighted how work from a variety of perspectives can support the well-being of children and youth.<\/p>\n
\u201cHolding this type of event gives our students an opportunity to professionally practice their presentation and knowledge dissemination skills \u2014 skills that will serve them well as they move beyond their undergraduate degrees and into the world to support children and youth,\u201d she says. \u201cI think I can confidently speak on behalf of all the supervisors by saying how proud we are of this year\u2019s cohort and all of their amazing hard work to get to this point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\t
