{"id":100207,"date":"2025-03-25T12:29:30","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T16:29:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=100207"},"modified":"2025-03-25T17:24:12","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T21:24:12","slug":"learning-lab-makes-local-impact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/03\/learning-lab-makes-local-impact\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning Lab makes local impact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The buzzing sounds of children learning \u2014 and laughing \u2014 filled the air when Arja Vainio-Mattila, Provost and Vice-President, Academic recently visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/learning-lab\/brock-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brock Learning Lab<\/a> (BLL).<\/p>\n<p>Housed in Brock\u2019s Faculty of Education and deeply rooted in community, the BLL offers affordable math and literacy tutoring for kindergarten to Grade 12 students in Niagara.<\/p>\n<p>Third-year Concurrent Teacher Education student Connor Middleton, a BLL tutor, spoke with Vainio-Mattila about the valuable skills he is developing including the opportunity to engage in one-on-one student interaction and lesson preparation as he works towards becoming a teacher.<\/p>\n<p>The BLL is <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/learning-lab\/brock-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accepting applications for volunteer tutors and interns<\/a> for its Spring Term math and literacy tutoring programs.
