Student club helping girls around the world access school

Fifth-year Concurrent Education student Madelyn Overall (centre) believes everyone should be able to access education, regardless of age, gender or socio-economic background. As a member of the Brock student-led club Champions of Change, Overall is helping to promote gender equality and challenging social constructs that young girls face around the world daily. Overall is working with fellow club members Anna-Lise McDermott (left) and Jessie Saker (right) to raise funds in partnership with Plan International's Because I am a Girl Foundation, to help provide girls in developing countries with the resources they need to attend school. “Our goal this year is to raise $1,000 to send three girls to school. So far, we have raised $871,” says Saker, who is also a fifth-year Concurrent Education student. Brock Champions of Change will have a table set up on Thursday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Mackenzie Chown A-Block to raise awareness and funds for Plan International's Because I am a Girl Foundation. They are also hosting a paint night fundraiser on Wednesday, March 20 at The Grounds Coffee House on 3490 Schmon Pkwy. For more information or to buy tickets visit @brock_champions on Instagram.
