Conference brings together fungus experts

Fungal student and faculty researchers from across Ontario gathered at Brock University May 18 to 19 for the 35th annual Great Lakes Mycology Meeting. Presentations were held on a broad array of topics in fungal research, including: fungal cell biology, biotechnology, ecology, evolution, genetics, genomics, physiology, pathology and taxonomy. This year's keynote speaker was Mark Gijzen from Agriculture Canada in London, Ont., who studies the plant pathogen Phytophthora sojae. The yearly mycology meeting provides an excellent opportunity for students and established mycologists to present and discuss their recent discoveries in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
