Cayuga Language Café promotes awareness of Indigenous languages

Leanne Taylor (Left), Associate Professor in Brock's Faculty of Education, learned more about a project created by Kiara Kalenuik, a fourth-year Medical Sciences student, in Brock’s Introduction to Cayuga class. Students in the class showcased Cayuga language resources they’ve created during the Cayuga Language Café on Wednesday, March 29. Kalenuik and her classmate Ryanne Logan, a fifth-year Neuroscience student, developed directions in Cayuga from a classroom in Welch Hall to the Hadiyaˀdagénhahs First Nations, Métis and Inuit Student Centre in. The event was designed to promote awareness of Cayuga and the importance of preserving Indigenous languages. Canada recognizes National Indigenous Languages Day on Friday, March 31 as a way to honour the importance of Indigenous languages and promote their survival.
