Campus trees home to a symphony of sparrows

People walking past the trees that line the walkway between the Plaza Building and Mackenzie Chown Complex may have noticed the loud chatter of a large gathering of birds recently. David Sharron, Head of Archives and Special Collections with the Brock University Library, says he's noticed the flock every day between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. for the past several weeks. One evening last week, the chatter coming from the trees was so loud, he stopped to record it. “It sounded as if they were having a party in there,” he said. The birds are believed to be sparrows and the trees they’re congregating in are called European Pyramidal Hornbeams.
