Labour Studies webinar to discuss rise in right-wing populism

An upcoming free public webinar hosted by Brock’s Department of Labour Studies will explore the rise in right-wing populism around the world and recent union endorsements of populist political figures.

“Labour’s Right Turn? Right-Wing Populism and the Working Class” takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7.

During the event, guest speakers David Moscrop and Bill Fletcher Jr. will discuss why right-wing populism has gained support among some workers and union members and how the labour movement can address the shift.

Moscrop is a Canadian political theorist and the author of Too Dumb for Democracy? Why We Make Bad Political Decisions and How We Can Make Better Ones. Bill Fletcher Jr. is an American scholar and labour activist, as well as co-author of Solidarity Divided: The Crisis in Organized Labor and a New Path Toward Social Justice.

This event is co-sponsored by the Canadian Association for Work and Labour Studies and the Council for Research in the Social Sciences.

Anyone interested in attending can register to receive the webinar link.
