Top scholars from Temple University will be at Brock this week to talk about their work examining the activities and motivations of accounting firms.
Jagan Krishnan and Jayanthi Krishnan, both Professors and Merves Senior Research Fellows at the Fox School of Business, Temple University, will each present a 45-minute lecture Friday, Sept. 16 as part of a joint session of the Goodman School of Business’ Luncheon Speaker Series and the CPA Centre for Public Policy and Innovation in Accounting’s (CPA-CPPIA) Brownbag Series.
Jagan’s presentation on his paper, “Accounting Firms’ Corporate Social Responsibility Activities: Determinants and Consequences,” examines the increased involvement of accounting firms in social activities, including why they partake in these activities and the benefits it offers for them.
With more than 30 years of teaching and professional experience in auditing and consulting, much of his research focuses on audit quality, corporate governance, auditor litigation, regulation and fraudulent financial reporting.
Jayanthi will present her paper, “Management Going Concern Reporting by Firms without Auditors’ Going Concern Reports: Evidence from ASU 2014-2015.” The study looks closely at mandatory and voluntary disclosures regarding the continuing existence of a firm and how new reporting guidelines can provide managers with more accurate internal information.
Jayanthi’s research areas include audit quality, auditor turnover, internal control, corporate governance and audit regulations. She is also the recipient of the 2015 American Accounting Association’s Notable Contribution to the Auditing Literature Award.
The Goodman speaker series provides Goodman faculty, staff and students with an informal opportunity to listen and discuss recent advances in research, teaching and practices with business colleagues.
The presentations will take place Friday, Sept. 16 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in TH 259. People interested in attending are encouraged to email Crystal Li at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a seat.
