New service allows Brock Library users to pick up, return books at 16 Ontario partner institutions

Brock University students, faculty and staff can now pick up books at university libraries across Ontario through a newly launched delivery program with Omni.

Implemented by Brock University Library in 2019, Omni is an innovative collaboration between 16 university partner libraries across Ontario with the goal of bringing users greater access to collections from participating libraries.

Omni’s new Pickup Anywhere program allows library users to select any of the partner libraries as a pickup location. Books can also be returned to any partner library, all at no cost to the user.

For example, if a Brock student is doing a summer co-op in Kingston and needs a book for their online course, they can request it through Brock’s Omni search tool and choose to pick it up at Queen’s University Library. When they’re done with the book, the student can return it to the same library or any of the 16 partner institutions.

Physical resources from other libraries will be available for the same 120-day loan period as those available at the Brock Library. Most resources are expected to arrive within five to seven business days.

Participating Omni university libraries currently include:

  • Algoma University
  • Brock University
  • Carleton University
  • University of Guelph
  • Lakehead University
  • Laurentian University
  • Nipissing University
  • Ontario Tech University
  • University of Ottawa
  • Queen’s University
  • Trent University
  • University of Waterloo
  • Western University
  • Wilfrid Laurier University
  • University of Windsor
  • York University

McMaster University and OCAD University will be added as pickup locations in mid-July.
