Gender and sexual violence support workshops available to Brock community

Brock University faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in series of virtual workshops focused on gender and sexual violence.

The 10-part Gender and Sexual Violence Support Certificate program, which begins Tuesday, Jan. 25, is hosted by Brock’s Human Rights and Equity (HRE) team and will zero in on several areas of importance while highlighting the perspectives of various communities.

The hourlong workshops will take place virtually on Microsoft Teams, where participants will learn about topics including restorative justice, consent and disclosure. Prior to the live component, those taking part must also complete at a 30-minute educational module on SAKAI.

Participants who complete five workshops over the course of the year will be awarded the Standard Sexual Violence Education and Support Certificate, while those who complete all 10 workshops will be awarded the Advanced Sexual Violence Education and Support Certificate.

Talia Ritondo, HRE’s Gender and Sexual Violence Education Co-ordinator, said the workshops hosts are cognizant of creating a welcoming environment for all participants.

“Our Gender and Sexual Violence Support Certificate Workshops find a nice balance between being engaging and educational,” she said. “We also work really hard to break down topics that can seem intimidating or uncomfortable, while creating a safe and brave learning environment.”
