Panel discussion to focus on leading change in data strategy and governance

Today’s business environment is increasingly putting more emphasis on data privacy and data analytics. An upcoming free interactive webinar will explore how women can lead the change in the data strategy and governance field.

Sasha Ali-Hosein, Director of Data Science for Cineplex Digital Media, and Mitu Mann, Chief Data Officer at Phoenix IT, will share their knowledge during the session Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. The online event is part of the Business Breathers series facilitated by Goodman Group, the Goodman School of Business’s community-focused learning and development services provider.

The webinar, titled “Data strategy and governance: Leading the change with a female perspective,” is aimed at people interested in amplifying women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers and ensuring diversity in the workplace. The event will be a moderated panel discussion hosted by Goodman Group Director Abdul Rahimi.

Mitu Mann, Chief Data Officer at Phoenix IT, is part of a Business Breathers online panel discussion Wednesday, Aug. 25.

“I hope that women planning on entering the data field feel empowered that they too can be in a leadership position in the future,” Ali-Hosein said.

The seminar will also benefit anyone thinking of entering the data governance field or wanting to learn more about data security, privacy and unified consumer data. The panelists will discuss what working in the field entails and what it’s like as a female leader in a male-dominated industry.

Ali-Hosein leads a team of data scientists across the Media and Digital Media groups at Cineplex on how they can leverage machine learning to solve some of Cineplex Digital Media’s toughest problems. She was part of the team that developed Cineplex’s first machine learning product that recommended media ads at the right time to the right person. Outside of work, she’s an avid believer and active contributor towards growing women in STEM and is a member of Data for Good, University of Waterloo’s Women in Math and Waterloo’s Women’s Impact Network.

As Chief Data Officer at Pheonix IT and consultant Data Governance Lead at GoEasy, Mann has more than 15 years of experience in the data governance and privacy industry. She has been leading data governance, privacy, security and strategic technology builds across industries, including strategic projects with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Rogers, the LCBO and, presently, GoEasy. With a background in management information systems, she is Certified Data Privacy Solution Engineer, a Certified Information Security Auditor, Certified Risk and Information Systems Control and a Project Management Professional.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Business Breathers webinars. Topics focus on leadership, management and innovation as well as the financial and social impacts of trending topics. Interested participants are asked to register online. A confirmation email will provide a link to access the webinar at the date and time of the event.
