Thesis defences — April 15 to 19

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place at Brock from April 15 to 19.

All are open for the University community to attend.

PhD comprehensive portfolio defence

Education student Amanjot Toor will defend the portfolio “Coming to This Place I Call My Home — Teachable Moments: A Comprehensive Portfolio” on Monday, April 15 at 10 a.m. in WH147.

The examination committee includes Dolana Mogadime, Chair; Kamini Jaipal-Jamani, External Examiner; Joyce Mgombelo, Supervisor; Doug Karrow, Committee Member; and Tanya Kaefer, Committee Member (Lakehead University).

PhD thesis defence in Biotechnology

Soumya Moonjely, a PhD candidate in the Centre for Biotechnology, will present her thesis defence on Monday, April 15 at 9 a.m. in PLZ600F.

Her thesis is titled, “Evaluation of genetic and strain specific factors on root colonization in endophytic insect pathogenic fungi (EIPF) Metarhizium and Beauveria, with special emphasis on hydrophobins.”

Her examination committee members are Heather Gordon, Chair; Mark Gijzen, External Examiner (Western University); Michael Bidochka, Supervisor; Dan McCarthy, Internal Examiner; and Alan Castle and Art van der Est, Committee Members.

Master of Science in Chemistry thesis defence

John Lortie, a MSC candidate in the Department of Chemistry, will present his thesis defence, “Novel Tridentate N,S,N-Metal Compounds of Zinc, Germanium and Phosphorus,” by video conference on Tuesday, April 16 at 10 a.m. in WH147.

His examination committee members are Cheryl McCormick, Chair; John Corrigan, External Examiner (Western University); Georgii Nikonov, Supervisor; and Martin Lemaire and Art van der Est, Committee Members.

PhD in Educational Studies dissertation defence

Education student Sharon Moukperian will defend the dissertation “Investigating the Emotional Impact of Narrative Dialogue on Struggling Readers’ Discovery of Learning Potential” on Tuesday, April 16 at 10 a.m. in TH253.

The examination committee includes Heather Gordon, Chair; Lynn Wiltse, External Examiner (University of Alberta); Jason Hawreliak, Internal Examiner; Jennifer Rowsell, Supervisor; Dragana Martinovic, Committee Member (University of Windsor); and Tiffany Gallagher and Debra Harwood, Committee Members.
