Student services delivery just got a massive update

Students returning to Brock for 2017 are discovering a much more convenient approach in how some key services are provided.

On Jan. 9, a number of services previously housed at separate locations across campus came together in the new Brock Central@The Registrar’s Office, on the 3rd floor of Schmon Tower.

In this latest step to update Brock’s administrative structure and make it more user-friendly, the one-stop access centre centralizes the delivery of

  • undergraduate admissions
  • enrolment services
  • student account services and
  • student financial assistance.

The new era is instantly evident to anyone walking into the Registrar’s Office, where a dramatic facelift has torn out 1970s-era counters and obsolete equipment to make way for a bright, open-concept space whose technology transforms how students do everything from registering for courses to paying fees.

This new bundling of student services also comes with longer hours of operation — open 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

But the most revolutionary change is the use of a wireless system designed to eliminate lineups and reduce wait times. The new software replaces physical queues and waiting rooms with virtual, mobile lines. Students can roam freely while waiting for service, and students will receive text updates from Brock Central about their approximate wait time.

“This new arrangement addresses our need to meet students exactly where their needs are,” said Tania Melnyk, Manager of Student Information and Services.

“Everything from the queuing software to the floor space was carefully laid out so the new approach will help students address multiple inquiries and requests in one convenient location. Brock Central will enhance the delivery of exemplary service for our students to enhance the Brock experience.”

University Registrar Geraldine Jones said students’ time is precious, and this major project will help them better manage their time by not having to stand in a line and wait.

“We’re also attempting to have a more holistic approach to administrative service,” said Jones.

“The student experience here is part of the appeal of choosing Brock. We believe in providing an inclusive, supportive and encouraging environment to create unique experiences for all students. The team at Brock Central will positively impact students’ higher education journey, and truly make a difference.”
