Future students FAQ – Residence addition

Hey there future Badgers,

Naomi here yet again to talk about some of the most frequently asked questions we get about residence from future students while on tours and through emails and phone calls. This blog post will answer those questions, but for a more please visit the residence website here!

1. “How do I know how to/what residence to apply to?”

Here at Brock we have 6 different styles of residence in 7 different buildings (listed below). The best way to go about choosing which style would best suit you is to come to campus and see all of the styles (there are  also virtual tours on our webpage!). When choosing residence you’ll be able to rank your choices by preference of style and, room assignments are based on admissions averages so keep working hard! The place to apply to residence? You can apply through your my.brocku.ca portal!

  • Traditional Single (DeCew residence)
  • Traditional Double (DeCew residence)
  • Semi-suite Single (Vallee, Earp, Lowenberger residence)
  • Semi-suite Double (Lowenberger residence)
  • Townhouse Single (Village residence, Quarry View residence)
  • Townhouse Double (Village residence)

2. “Is residence guaranteed?”

Brock guarantees residence for  incoming full-time first year students who are coming from high school or from out of province when we receive the residence application and fee no later than June 1, 2017.

We also guarantee residence to students transferring from a post-secondary institution who meet the following conditions:

  • accept their offer of admission no later than June 1, 2017
  • were granted fewer than 5.0 transfer credits as determined by Brock University by June 1, 2016
  • we receive the residence application and fee no later than June 1, 2017.

3. “One of my friends is also applying to residence, can we request to live together?”

Absolutely! If you want to live with someone you know in residence you’ll be able to indicate that on your residence application – make sure you choose the same style of residence and both names are spelled correctly! – keep in mind this is a request, and doesn’t necessarily mean it’s guaranteed, we do try our best though!

4. “What’s the deal with meal plan?”

Okay here’s the low down on the meal plans – if you live in Townhouse style residence you don’t require a meal plan. However you’re able to purchase one if you wish. If you live in traditional or semi-suite style residence you require a meal plan and have a few options:

Basic       $3,900
Light       $4,250
Regular  $4,500
Varsity   $4,750
For more information on meal plans check out this link

5. “Can I live with people who are in the same program or have similar interests to me?”

Yes! Here at Brock we offer something called an LLC or Living Learning Community. We have many different options from living with students who have similar programs to similar interests. Check out more LLC info here!

Thanks for reading!

Naomi out!
