Hi Everyone,
Today I thought I’d share with you one of the most amazing opportunities I’ve experienced in my life, one which was made available to me through Brock University! This past May, to finish off my second year here, I took part in the Brock Abroad Experiential Learning trip to both Namibia and South Africa. The trip was about 3.5 weeks, and included myself, 20 other students and 2 trip leaders who represent Brock International Services.
This trip is run through the Brock Abroad program, and the goal is for students in various programs to experience and learn about the culture of Southern Africa. Through engaging with locals of Namibia, and exploring an entirely new place, I found that I learned a great deal about myself and my place in the world! Some of the initiatives we took part in while in Namibia included: Volunteering with children at a local after-school program, painting a preschool classroom, and facilitating a weekend-long children’s camp.
We also had the chance to experience a real African safari, try sand boarding in the dunes of the Namib Desert, and we also climbed the famous Table Mountain in Cape town, South Africa. The memories we made on this trip will last a lifetime, and the group of students I went with became a family, after arriving as nearly strangers.
