If you were anything like me growing up, you probably had a strong desire to become a professional athlete. While I’m sure that we both came super close and didn’t quite get there for our own legitimate reasons, we have to be happy that we embarked on such a worthwhile pursuit.
But what if I told you that your dream wasn’t really over, that at Brock University there is still a way to become the envy of the league and get to hoist a trophy (in the form of a t-shirt) over your head, finishing with a victory lap as the thoughts in your head are drowned out over the noise of the crowd?! …Or something close to that.
This crazy and worthwhile experience is brought to you by Intramural Sports!
Thousands of students participate in intramural sports at Brock, and you don’t have to be a professional athlete to do so (although you kind of feel like one). We have a wide range of sports, everything from underwater hockey (what’s that you ask?) to ultimate frisbee, flag football to squash, and soccer to volleyball… the list goes on and on (and the full list is here). A variety of men’s, women’s, and co-ed teams are offered during the fall, winter, and spring months. There are also a number of one-day tournaments that are offered if you’re not looking for a commitment.
Intramurals were the best way for me to meet people, develop friendships, and get exercise. You can either make your own team with your friends or sign up as an individual and get placed on a team, making it a fun experience for all. It’s a great way to de-stress and almost all of the sports take place right on the school’s campus, making them extremely accessible and easy to build around your class schedule. Not to mention many sports are played right on the awesome new turf field that was just installed – nothing says professional athlete like playing on a turf field.
I highly encourage you to sign up, get involved and get active and wish you the best of luck on your pursuit of the not so easily attainable t-shirt.
See you on the field,
Ryan
