Hello again!
As a follow up to my last post about starting conversations with students and parents at OUF (Ontario University Fair), here are a few more questions I would ask students to keep the conversation going about Brock and which University might be right for them!
4. How involved would you like to be?
I hope that everyone answers “Very!”, or at the very least, “Somewhat involved”. While every school will offer volunteer, work, extra-curricular, and community experiences- it is worth doing some homework into the types of things students do and how they get involved. To get you started take a look at this link and explore the tabs on the left side of the page.
In my experience at Brock I have been so fortunate in the opportunities to volunteer, work, study and participate in things that may not have been possible at another University. At Brock the opportunities are open and accessible to you, and I have never felt like I was competing with someone else to gain an experience.
For example, at Brock we have a number of research labs (the ones I hold dear are the Psychology department’s labs), and I’ve realized how lucky I was to be able to email professors and have them 1) respond to me within 24hrs and 2) immediately offer to make time to meet with me and discuss my research interests. This may not be something that you flag as important right now – but it has been an incredibly valuable experience and one I would encourage anyone to look into.
5. Do you like to cook (or CAN you cook?)
If you answer no to both of those questions then you need to check out the meal plan options available to you on residence. Here is a link to some more information about Brock’s meal plans – and a sample of a menu for our Guernsey Market which is my favourite spot to eat on campus!
And finally…
6. Have you been to visit us?
No? Well what are you waiting for! We have a beautiful campus and a team of enthusiastic tour guides who would love to show you around. Book a tour time here or check out our fast approaching Fall Preview day on November 8th !
See you soon!
