Which Residence Is For Me? Part II

So you may ask: which will I prefer? That’s a great question, and even I have trouble with that decision. I have lived in residence the past three years: Decew (a traditional residence) in my first year, Village (a non-traditional residence) for my second year (and first year as a Don), and Quarry View Residence (non-traditional) this year. They have all been great opportunities to meet new people and I have had priceless experiences within each one. The different characteristics of each residence are felt throughout the year. A common theme throughout these three residences: you always have the opportunity to meet many new and interesting people. In Decew, and other traditional residences, your door opens onto a hall that you have other eager students who are in the same situation you are. From my first year in residence, I made friendships that have lasted to this day. The same goes for non-traditional residences; both Village and Quarry give you the opportunity to meet several housemates with whom you share a common space.

Lounge in Vallee Residence: A Traditional Style Building

Within each building, residents live in specific halls, courts or blocks with a namesake and a mascot. I think of this as a Harry Potter-esque style of living, as there are competitions throughout the year (starting with the exciting Residence Summer Games during Orientation Week and ending with the Residence Awards Dinner in April). From day one you’ll feel a part of the Residence community, and the even larger Brock community. A great piece of advice I have heard: the building you live in really boils down to bricks and mortar, but it is the individuals you are living with that create your unforgettable experience in Residence. I hope this two-part post has answered a few questions, and if not feel free to stop in for a free tour of Brock’s residences to see for yourself.
