Now that first semester is long gone and second semester is well underway, I’ve been able to notice some trends in the questions that pop up during campus tours. One particularly popular area of interest that keeps resurfacing is student employment. Whether prospective students are asking me how I came to be a Brock Ambassador or what other job opportunities are available, I always respond with words of encouragement; working on campus is one of the best things I have done in my four years at Brock and my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner!
When prospective students or their parents ask for more information about on-campus jobs the first thing I do is direct them to Career Services (located in the Matheson Learning Commons) or their online job portal:
https://careerzone.brocku.ca/student/login.htm
The Career Zone website is a hidden gem that makes job hunting so much easier for students. By logging on with your Brock credentials, you can browse a variety of employment and volunteer opportunities for on-campus, off-campus and even international positions. These online listings give you all of the necessary information about a particular role, like how to apply, what to include in your application and where to submit it.
Not only do on-campus jobs work around your class schedule, but they also allow you to meet tons of new people and to establish connections with members of the Brock and Niagara communities. It means a lot to be able to represent Brock on the front lines and to make unforgettable friendships and memories while I do it…trust me, it’s a good gig!
It is currently hiring season so make sure to check out the portal as soon as you accept your offer of admission and set up your account! New postings are always being published so it’s also a good idea to check back regularly.
