Hello Future Students,
By now you have applied to your top choices for University and are patiently (or impatiently) awaiting offers of admission. So during this time, what are you to do? Just sit back, relax, and enjoy a brief story about my recent trip to Europe.
Now, this was not just any trip to Europe… in fact, if it were not for being a student at Brock, I would have never had the opportunity! One of my professors in the Department of Sport Management, Dr. Cheryl Mallen, was invited to be the visiting scholar at “fH Kufstein Tirol”, in Kufstein, Austria. Luckily for me, I was invited to accompany her!
During our 10 days in Kufstein, Dr. Mallen delivered her speech as visiting scholar to students and faculty within the Sport, Culture, & Event Management program, and we taught some lessons in a second year class. Her speech was entitled “Sport Management Needs You!” and encouraged students to consider current and future challenge they may face as they begin their careers in the industry. During our time teaching I was pleased to see the enthusiasm of the students. And as a Sport Management student from North America, I enjoyed learning the perspectives of European students on common trends and issues within the discipline.
It was an absolutely amazing experience! Not only did I take my first trip to Europe, but to have the opportunity to travel with one of my professors and share lecturing duties at fH Kufstein Tirol was truly something I could never have imagined.
Do you have an interest in travelling while studying at Brock? You can look into our Exchange Program, which allows students to travel to universities all around the world in their third or first semester of fourth year. Or perhaps you will have the opportunity to take part in research or guest lecturing abroad with one of your professors in your upper years (be sure to take advantage of your professors’ office hours to set yourself apart from the crowd and learn how you can work together in the future!).
I have had a number of amazing experiences as a Brock student, but this was by far the most spectacular. Who knows what your four years here could bring?!
