It’s that time of year again – exams. Now I figured that this week I could type out a whole blog talking about how stressful exams are and how you should find ways to cope with that stress, but that’s not really how I feel. Recently I’ve had a lot of conversations with my friends about it, and frankly we all agree: exams are the best time of the year at Brock.
So before you think I’m crazy let me explain, we’re not saying that we love writing exams and love writing papers, but the exam time period is a bit of a cool-down from the rest of the year. Instead of having labs, tutorials, seminars, lectures to attend, papers to write, things to read, and a bunch of homework, you get to sit back focus on one or two classes at one time and really get to know the material so that you can do well on your exam.
Okay, so now that you know where I’m coming from I understand that exams are a really stressful time of year for lots of people. So if you want some ways to deal with that stress first and foremost get out and get moving! Get a gym membership, try some Yoga, enroll in a fitness class – you’ll have a lot more free time since you aren’t in classes and exercise is one of the number one ways to burn stress. If you’re worried that you won’t know the material make “study dates” with your friends – it’s an easy way to catch up AND it gives you a goal so that you’re more motivated to study so that you don’t look like a chump when you get together with your friend to study and you haven’t even looked over your notes.
If you are stressing for exams, or you’re worried about how you’ll do on exams when you come to Brock just keep in mind that the Student Development Centre has lots of help available to you to get prepared for your exams, your assignments and even some tutoring opportunities throughout the year. Make sure that you get the help you need so that you’re getting the grades that you truly deserve! I would recommend taking the class on multiple choice exams – that really helped me!
Good luck on your exams everyone!
