Hello Future Students!
It’s hard to believe, but even after 5 years at Brock, I can still have new experiences right here on campus. In fact, this week I had not one, but TWO new experiences!
#1 – Spin Class
As a student with a membership to The Zone (Brock’s fitness facility) I am able to take free spinning and Xpress Fit classes. So, on Tuesday I attended my first spin class with a few friends. I had heard great things about the classes, but was worried that, as someone who had never taken a spin class, I wouldn’t know what I was doing. But I decided to take a chance and try something new. Luckily for me, the instructor was excited to have new people in her class and allowed us to modify the routine to fit our beginner skill level. The class lasted about 40 minutes and was such a great workout. In fact, we loved it so much that we signed up again for next week!
#2 – Squash
Over the past few weeks the Sport Management grad students have been taking part in a friendly squash league, playing every Thursday morning. Until this past week I had never played squash, but decided I wanted to give it a try. Brock has 4 squash courts that are open to students and staff, so we booked a few courts and eight of us, including one of our professors, went down to play. Now, I’m not the most coordinated person, but after a while I caught on to the game. I didn’t win, but had such a great time!
So what has this week taught me? Not only is there always something new to try, but you won’t know how much you will enjoy a new hobby until you give it a whirl.
It’s easy to fall into a routine when you’re a student, but here at Brock, there is no excuse not to experience something new (…even after 5 years!).
Until next time!
