So for those of you who haven’t noticed, we are into exam time here at Brock. I know my roommates and I are into hard core study mode as of today and we are all feeling that little bit of stress mounting…so we have all been to the kitchen to grab a snack.
Lots of people fall into the trap of not only stress eating but also eating less healthy during exams because they have less time to cook. Have no fear though, here are some helpful tips to beat the exam munchies.
My first piece of advice is to find some healthy snacks that satisfy the snacking urge. I know for new things like carrot sticks, popcorn and rice cakes help me beat the craving without eating tons of fat, calories or sugar. Also dividing your snacks into small potions will help you not eat the entire bag of something.
Secondly, I find that cooking a bunch when you have a little time and then freezing it helps during exams. Especially because I cook for one, I have lots of leftovers so I freeze them whenever I know I won’t be able to eat them. Now, when I am my most busy, I can just pull out squash soup, meatloaf or chicken breasts, microwave them, and I have a homemade, healthy meal in a matter of minutes.
Thirdly, I would suggest scheduling a time to go grocery shopping. If you have healthy food in the house, it will help you not just eat PB&J for two weeks straight (not that I have anything against PB&J). If you find yourself with a little bit of time and some nice weather, having healthy, fresh food will not only help you stay healthy but have you feeling your best when you write your final exams.
Best of luck everyone!
Hi Victoria!
If you have time, could you please email me. I’ll be moving to Brock in September and I would love to have someone to talk to for questions and inside opinions (not just what’s on the Brock site).
Thanks!
Monica
